Last week I made sure I had my work day off to drive forty-five to see my friend, Gretchen at Inver Grove Heights. It has been a while since I’ve driven such a long distance, but it comes back to you just as easily as riding a bike. The plan for the day was to take pictures in downtown Minneapolis before a curly hair event.

If there is anything you need to know about Gretchen Leif: she is the mastermind of when it comes to natural, curly hair. She knows exactly what hair products to use, and was recommending to others how to take care of curly hair in a healthy way. One of the biggest things I’ve learned is sulfate and silicone. I was told later at the Curl Power Salon Gretchen brought us to that anything ending with “-cone” you want to avoid.

Our friend Megan and I got our hair taken care of for free because it was the first time we were at the salon. The shampoo and conditioner made my hair shine, but there was a long-lasting gel scrunched into my hair that brought more volume into my hair. There was also free food and bidding for packages of different items, like coffee and books.

I enjoyed the time spent that day literally everywhere. Even the car ride back, which we practically screamed the words to Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. I also got to introduce Spyhouse Coffee to Gretchen and Megan. Megan Peine is an amazing videographer, and captured this day perfectly in the video below!

People have asked me countless of times if I had pictures of myself, or if I receive pictures of myself. Usually I love having the ability to take pictures of myself with self-timer, or times like these where I have a fun and creative shoot with some gal-pals who offer to take headshots for me also. Getting new headshots right after getting my hair done in curls was perfect. I love my hair truly, so I felt incredibly confident, plus the addition of my friends and girl-power.
